Privacy Policy

Nook is a web browser for macOS made by Arun Brahma. It has no user accounts and no analytics, and it runs no servers. This page lists what the app stores on your Mac and the network requests it makes on its own.

What stays on your Mac

Bookmarks and the optional name you enter on the new-tab page are saved as plain files in your Mac's Application Support folder. They never leave your device.
History is kept in memory only and is gone when you quit.
Cookies, cache, and site data created while browsing are cleared automatically when Nook quits.

Network requests Nook makes itself

Search. Typing a search in the address bar sends it to Google. Google's privacy policy applies to that request.
Location on the new-tab page. To show your city, the new-tab page asks get.geojs.io for an approximate location based on your IP address. Nothing else is sent, and the result is not stored.
Ad blocking. Nook uses Ghostery's filter lists. The lists may be downloaded from Ghostery's servers so they stay current; no browsing data is sent with those requests.

Beyond these, Nook only connects to the websites you choose to visit. Those sites see what any browser would show them.

What we never collect

Your browsing history, bookmarks, and searches are not collected or sent anywhere. Nook has no telemetry and no crash reporting.

Children

Nook is a general-purpose browser and is not directed at children under 13. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone.

If this policy changes, the new version will be posted here with an updated date.
